Call Congress to ensure that health care reform includes key priorities

Congress will likely finish the final draft of health care reform tomorrow or, at the latest, Saturday. We need calls TODAY to our Congressional leaders to ensure that health care reform includes our key priorities: 1) lifting the five-year bar imposed on legal immigrants in Medicaid and 2) ensuring undocumented immigrants can purchase health coverage with their own money in the Exchange(s).

Please take a few minutes to make these critical phone calls on behalf of these vulnerable populations.

Calls Needed to These Key Legislators:

Majority Leader Harry Reid: (202) 224-3542

Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin: (202) 224-2152

Senator Max Baucus: (202) 224-2651

Senator Chris Dodd: (202) 224-2823

Senator Tom Harkin: (202) 224-3254

Speaker Nancy Pelosi: (202) 225-4965

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer: (202) 225-4131

Rep. George Miller: (202) 225-2095

Rep. Charles Rangel: (202) 225-4365

Rep. Henry Waxman: (202) 225-3976

On your calls, you can say:

My name is [First, Last]. I am calling from (City, State) because Congress is close to finishing the final draft of the health care reform bill, and I want to make sure that our leaders do not forget the immigrant community.

The bill should restore fairness to our health care system by removing a harsh five-year waiting period that prevents legal immigrants from accessing Medicaid.   Also, allowing undocumented immigrants to buy health coverage with their own money is the right thing to do and will reduce costs for everyone as more people pay into the health care system.

Please do not let politics create unjust, insensible policies that increase costs for everyone.
Thank you.”
